Annandale, Va. — On Saturday, Oct. 27, 2012, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., the Annandale Volunteer Fire Department will participate in the Annandale Fall Festival and Parade, hosted by the Annandale Chamber of Commerce. This is a 62-year-old tradition and the largest public event in Greater Annandale, attended by over 10,000 people.
Each year, members of Annandale VFD guide numerous parade participants as they march along Columbia Pike, starting at Gallows Road. This year’s Grand Marshal, Roy Eppard, will direct the parade, followed by Annandale VFD’s impressive array of fire and rescue vehicles. Fire department members walk along the vehicles, distributing candy to spectators, reaching the end of the parade at the festival site on Little River Turnpike at the Little River Center (Safeway Shopping Center).
The Festival features Taste of Annandale vendors, kid’s zone amusements, and numerous other sites and sounds.
Following the parade, Annandale VFD members will set up a festival booth next to their Canteen unit, a unique part of AVFD’s front-line fleet. Visitors to the booth are provided with fire and safety information, fun giveaways, and much more. The booth is a popular spot for children, who are provided with red fire hats and fun stickers. Parents can receive brochures about home fire safety tips and other useful free resource materials.
