Burke VFD to Receive New Paramedic Ambulance

by | Dec 10, 2012 | Uncategorized

Burke, Va. — Burke Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department is pleased to announce that the organization has signed a contract for the purchase of a new paramedic ambulance.

The new paramedic ambulance will include a customized patient care compartment mounted on a Ford F-550 medium-duty chassis.  The vehicle, which costs more than $200,000, has improved driving characteristics, increased occupant protection, and advanced emissions control technology.

The new ambulance will allow paramedics from Burke VFD and the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department to continue to provide advanced life support care to the citizens of Burke and the surrounding areas.  The ambulance will provide patients a more comfortable ride to the hospital while increasing protection for all occupants.

The new ambulance is expected to be delivered sometime in early 2013.  The new ambulance will be the first new first-out paramedic ambulance from the Burke fire station (County Station 14) in more than nine years.  The current first-out ambulance has been driven for over nine years and has over 117,000 miles. This new vehicle will be a welcomed addition to the fleet.

The initial down payment on the new ambulance has been made possible with the continuous and generous support of the citizens of Burke and the surrounding areas. The down payment proceeds were raised through citizens’ direct donations as well as proceeds from Wednesday night Bingo games and Burke VFD hall rentals.

Burke VFD would like to thank Horton, FESCO Emergency Sales, the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department, Retired Burke VFD Chief Don Melick, and the residents of Burke and the surrounding areas for their cooperation and kind assistance with this purchase.

Burke VFD is a partner in the Fairfax County Volunteer Fire and Rescue Association and is part of the County’s Fire and Rescue Department.  Learn more about the Burke Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department at http://www.bvfrd.org.  (12/10/2012)
